How To $50 Make-In Day on MTurk

Can You Really Make $50 A Day On MTurk?

Actually yes, if you know how. I and countless other MTurkers are able to earn $20, $50, and some say $100 a day by completing many short tasks over the course of a few hours. Therefore, it is certainly quite possible to make decent money on MTurk. Although it is very rare to earn enough for a full-time job. For most MTurkers (like me), the platform provides a good source of supplemental income.

$50 From Amazon MTurk

For Example, I joined MTurk towards the end of 2013 to supplement the income I was earning from transcription – my very first (and short-lived) side hustle. Anyway, since I wasn't making much money from transcribing, I needed a way to make some money easily. Over the years I have relied on MTurk as one of my tried and true sources of making money online.

While most MTurkers are lucky to earn a few dollars a day, I've managed to pick up a number of tips and tricks that allow me to earn up to $50 a day on MTurk when I'm really strapped for cash. While I no longer use the platform on a daily basis, my freelance writing career has grown substantially over the past few years.

However, from my 8+ years of experience, if you are serious about making $50 a day on MTurk, you need to learn as much as you can about the platform, as well as the tips and tricks that top earners use to maximize their earnings.

What is MTurk?

Amazon Mechanical Turk (MTurk) is a website that offers users (referred to as MTurkers) the opportunity to earn money online from short tasks that often take only a few seconds to complete. The platform was launched by Amazon in 2005 as a way to connect employers with a large, diverse, on-demand workforce capable of completing projects that require human intelligence. In other words, tasks that cannot be automated by artificial intelligence programs.

At any given time, you can find thousands of short jobs on MTurk, ranging from tagging photos to examining receipt numbers, verifying data, conducting interviews, completing surveys and market research studies, or transcribing audio files. Frankly, I don't think it's possible to exhaust the available jobs. However, this does not mean that all available jobs pay enough to be worth your time and effort.

Basically, the goal of MTurk is to help businesses gain expertise, intelligence, and the necessary knowledge to strengthen their data collection and analysis processes. Therefore, MTurk focuses on human intelligence tasks (HITs) that machines cannot perform as efficiently as humans.

Amazon Mechanical Turk has changed the game for many businesses that would otherwise lack the capabilities and resources to scale such large projects. This platform has also changed the game for people like me who are looking for a legitimate way to make money online in their spare time.

How can I become an MTurk worker?

Joining MTurk is really easy. Follow these simple steps:

Visit: Amazon Mechanical Turk website.

Since you are registering as a worker, you will need to apply for a worker account.

You will then, at that point, be approached to enter your Amazon ID and secret phrase. However, if you don't already have an Amazon account, you can choose to create one.

Since profit on MTurk is viewed as available pay, you will be approached to enter your federal retirement aide number.

You will then be asked to set up your payment details. MTurk pays workers weekly payments by direct deposit into a bank account. (No PayPal.)

You can also choose to receive your earnings in the form of Amazon gift cards.

What Kinds Of Tasks Are On MTurk?

As mentioned, there are thousands of tasks available on Amazon Mechanical Turk at any given time. Here's an overview of the three most common and highest-paying jobs on MTurk.

Overviews and Statistical Surveys Studies:

My number one MTurk occupations are reviews and statistical surveying studies. A large portion of them are short and compensate fairly for the time it takes to finish them. For example, I can often earn $1 in less than five minutes, which equates to over $12 per hour. However, even the lower-paying surveys can be worth your time if they take less than a few minutes to complete. For example, a $0.25 study that only takes a minute equals $15 per hour.

Transcription:

If you're a fast typist and a good listener, you can make decent money on MTurk by transcribing audio files. You often get a bonus on top of your hourly rate for transcription. In fact, I've seen some transcription projects that pay as much as $90.

Data tagging:

These tasks can include identifying objects in images, verifying transactions on receipts, and anything related to data analysis. While most data labeling tasks can pay as little as a few cents, these short tasks can usually be completed in seconds. This means it is possible to complete hundreds of data labeling jobs per hour (earning almost $15 per hour).

How Can I Make $50 To $100 a Day on MTurk?

If you want to make good money on Amazon Mechanical Turk, you must follow these tips and tricks.

Select the Highest-Paying HIT:

You can filter HIT based on salary, making it easy to find the highest-paying jobs. Since my earning goal is around $12/hour, I'm always looking for tasks that pay an average of $0.20 per minute. For example, I could accept a short two-minute survey that pays $0.40 but pass on a 20-minute study that pays $1.00. At the end of the day, track down the best return for your time.

Maintain a High Rating:

In order to get paid, your work must be approved by employers. A higher approval rating also means you get access to more jobs, not to mention better-paying jobs. Therefore, maintaining a high approval rating (above 98%) can give you a significant competitive advantage over other workers.

Check For New HITs Regularly:

Since most companies operate during normal business hours, this means that most HITs are uploaded by companies during normal business hours. That's why you want to check the platform frequently throughout the day for new jobs. I once read about a lady who installed a buzzer on her computer that rang every time a new HIT (that met her requirements) became available. She never missed work like this.

Increase Your Earnings with MTurk Browser Extensions:

I and others would never have been able to earn +$50 a day on MTurk without browser extensions. For example, plugins like Greasemonkey, Turkopticon, and Tampermonkey can automatically find and accept the best-paying HITs before most other workers can manually accept them.

Filter Applicants:

Not all applicants (employers) are created equal. Sadly, there are a few corrupt individuals on the stage who will attempt to escape paying specialists. Therefore, you also need to filter applicants. For example, Turkopticon can help you filter out employers who have a history of rejecting a high number of HITs.

Join the Forum for MTurkers:

Another way you can learn about high-paying HITs on Amazon Mechanical Turk is to join the worker forum. MTurk Group and Turker Country are my two most loved discussions.

Get Additional Qualifications:

Many jobs, especially the highest paying ones, require special qualifications issued directly by the applicants. For example, you may need to complete a sample HIT or take a short survey to qualify. However, it can be worth it to gain access to high-paying HITs.

Setting Earning Goals:

MTurk has a great feature that allows you to set a daily earnings goal. This way you can see how close (or far) you are to reaching your goal for the day. When I worked on MTurk every day, I created a spreadsheet to record my daily earnings to track my progress.

In short, Amazon Mechanical Turk can be a great way to make money online in your spare time. In fact, it's not uncommon for workers to make $50 a day (or more) by following the above tips and tricks. I've read a number of stories from top workers who manage to make $100 a day on MTurk. Although I have never made that much, I have been very grateful for this platform over the years as it has allowed me to make money online during a drought with my other freelance gigs.
