US National Security Adviser Sullivan tests positive for coronavirus

WASHINGTON —

National Security Council spokeswoman Adrienne Watson said National Security Adviser Sullivan tested positive for the coronavirus on Saturday. Sullivan was scheduled to accompany President Biden to the G7 summit a week later.

Watson said that Sullivan had no close contact with Biden and was an asymptomatic infection. She said this was the first time he had contracted the coronavirus.

Sullivan met Senegalese Foreign Minister Aissata Tall Sall at the White House on Friday, the White House said Saturday. On Monday (June 13), Sullivan held a four-and-a-half-hour meeting with Yang Jiechi, China's top diplomat, in Luxembourg.

It is unclear whether the positive test result will affect Sullivan's travel plans.

The White House announced last week that Biden would travel to southern Germany for the G7 summit and to Spain for the NATO summit in late June.
